Introduction
Nowadays, it is pretty easy to create website application development. Heck, even a 14-year old boy or your 70-year old grandma can do it. That is thanks to a lot of website builders that have proliferated a couple of years ago.
Although you can most certainly create websites this way, do you really want to go this route, especially if you’re going to create an online presence for your business?
If you ask me, I would still rely on a true web designer to handle such tasks. After all, if your website looks clunky or uninspired, your results might be as good as you thought it would be anyway.
That being said, how will you choose the right web designer to help you create your online presence?
-
Freelance or Agency?
Probably, the first thing you need to take into consideration is if you’re going to hire an agency or a freelancer. If you are going to hire an agency, chances are that you will come up with a professional looking website, but at a pretty steep cost.
This is not to say that freelancers are bad, though. In fact, I’ve had much success working with freelance web designers in the Philippines.
I think it all boils down to communication and their track record. There are some really good freelancers that have solid track records; you just have to find them if you want to hire a freelancer instead of an agency.
-
Coding Knowledge
Some web designers are pretty good in that they also know how to use different programming languages as well. Although this is not really a requirement, per se, a web designer that does know how to code will know how to implement certain features; all without the help of another programmer.
-
Experience and Credentials
How long have they been in business? How many clients have they catered so far? What are their experiences and expertise? Do they specialize in one area of web design or all of it?
It would be best that you look at their portfolio and examine them carefully. See if the things that they’ve implemented are the ones that you want to be implemented on your website as well.
-
Look at Their Testimonials
What better way to know of a web designer than to ask from the clients they’ve previously catered to, right? Ask for their referrals and call them one by one. Ask if the particular web designer has done a good job on their own sites and what else to look out for.
-
Adherence to Current Standards
Ask the web designer if they adhere to current web design trends. For instance, do they know how to implement AI like machine learning into the website? Furthermore, do they know how to implement reactive design so that your webpage can be viewed optimally on a mobile device as well as a desktop browser? Do they know how to implement SEO techniques really well?
